Forlorn Hope Fancy Preview

Forlorn Hope Fancy

The title of the show "Forlorn Hope Fancy" is named after the musical composition written for the lute by John Dowland c.1610. It conveys the thought that a full range of emotions are desirable and are avliable through observation. The inspired meloncholy of considering onesself in relaotionship to the full scale of existence is perhaps the greatest gift of our time.

Row after row of painted wood blocks resembling soldiers will be assembled to create the Destroyer. The Destroyer is a manifestion of one range of human desire, a central theme of Travis' work.

And here we are at Eli's Studio.

Here are a few of Eli's fig paintings in progress. (The fig is a symbol of want and refers to his Orthodoxical upbringing.)

Made of hand cut layers of plywood; painted, and pressed together they resemble an abstract interpretation of the ancient fruit. Some apparent cross sections reveal their hidden structure , networks and chanels converge beyond the surface.

Limited edition casts of this mermaid sculpture will be available at the show.
